Challenge

The manufacturer recognized the need to manage the high-volume waste streams generated by solar PV manufacturing and selected Aquatech to provide the engineering and construction of an integrated effluent treatment and recycling system tailored to meet the unique needs of this solar PV manufacturing process. Aquatech was selected for its proven expertise and innovative approach to water management, particularly in high-technology sectors.

The challenge extends to ensuring that the plant achieves and maintains operational consistency in the long term. Solution

Aquatech offered an advanced effluent treatment plant (ETP) and system for recycling and reusing the wastewater. The objective of the ETP is to effectively treat the wastewater, specifically targeting the efficient removal of fluoride. The plant receives three incoming effluent streams from the process plant: Concentrated Hydrofluoric Acid (HF), Diluted HF, and a recycling stream. Given the concentrated HF's high hazard potential, strict safety protocols and pollution control measures are implemented throughout the plant's design and operation to mitigate risks. The concentrated and dilute HF streams are initially separated and treated by lime neutralization in batch processes.

The third recycle stream is mixed with the cooling tower blowdown and treated through a multi-stage purification sequence, including clarification, DMF, UF, and finally RO. The RO permeate is then used as makeup water for the cooling tower. The second phase of the project will include not only a 5 GW capacity expansion (from existing capacity of 5GW) but also an additional wastewater stream from the ingot and wafer manufacturing lines, which contain high levels of COD and BOD. These streams are also designed to be treated with Aquatech's advanced biological treatment system.

Aquatech will also provide a potable water and remineralization system for this plant. The desalinated water output undergoes meticulous treatment with CO2 and lime to achieve a positive LSI level. Our approach prioritizes treating water and enhancing its quality, ensuring the final treated water maintains a TDS below 150 ppm and permeate is used for cooling tower application.
