QUA Q-SEP®

Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membranes

Ultrafiltration (UF) is a membrane process engineered to effectively remove suspended solids, colloidal matter, high molecular weight substances, and bacteria and viruses from various feed water sources. UF membranes can achieve a low and consistent silt density index (SDI) and are often used as pretreatment for reverse osmosis using surface water, seawater and biologically treated wastewater as a feed source.

QUA’s Q-SEP® UF membranes integrate high-strength, hollow fibers that offer unparalleled performance without the risk of fiber breaks. These cutting-edge membranes are available in inside-out and outside-in flow configurations, both of which exhibit exceptional resistance to fouling. These hollow fiber membranes operate under a pressurized flow configuration for superior performance.

Advantages of Q-SEP UF Membranes

01 / 05
High-Quality Filtration

High-Quality Filtration

The manufacturing process results in uniform pore size distribution on the membrane surface, resulting in consistently lower filtrate SDI.

Feedwater Flexibility

Feedwater Flexibility

The manufacturing process leads to high mechanical strength and the ability to address high-turbidity wastewater.

Lower Expenditure

Lower Expenditure

Q-SEP's high porosity membranes allow you to operate at a higher flux or lower TMP to reduce capital or operating expenditure.

Consistent Availability

Consistent Availability

Q-SEP membranes have superior fouling resistance, resulting in less frequent cleanings and increased up-time.

Increased Reliability

Increased Reliability

Q-SEP has superior product design and mechanical integrity of components due to its high-strength fibers that reduce the risk of breaks.

How Do Q-SEP Hollow Membranes Work?

How Do Q-SEP Hollow Membranes Work?

QUA’s Q-SEP hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes incorporate high-strength, hollow fibers that deliver superior performance without the risk of fiber breaks. Q-SEP membranes are available in PES inside-out and PVDF outside-in flow configurations, allowing customers to select a configuration based on their system requirements.

Q-SEP modules contain an advanced ultrafiltration membrane prepared by an innovative patented Cloud Point Precipitation method that ensures a uniform pore size distribution, ultrathin membrane separation layer, and high membrane pore density. As a result, the product water quality from the Q-SEP™ modules is significantly better than the quality from conventional ultrafiltration membrane modules at a very low transmembrane pressure.

The Q-SEP Technology

QUA’s Q-SEP membranes are constructed by two different methods: a patented cloud point precipitation method for the inside-out modules and QUA’s innovative modified thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method for the outside-in modules.

The Q-SEP inside-out modules contain an advanced UF fiber made from a modified polyether sulfone (PES) material. The fiber is prepared by a patented cloud point precipitation method that ensures a very uniform pore size distribution and high pore density in the membrane.

As a result, the product water quality from the Q-SEP modules is significantly better than that of conventional UF modules at very low operating pressure. The membranes are available with 0.8 mm ID fibers, suitable for feedwater turbidity up to 30 NTU.

The Q-SEP outside-in hollow fiber ultrafiltration modules contain polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF membranes manufactured by QUA’s innovative modified thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method.

The membrane has high mechanical strength, high chemical and chlorine tolerance, and the ability to handle high-feed turbidity with various applications. The membranes are available with 1.25 mm (0.05 inch) OD fibers to treat feed water with high turbidity up to 300 NTU.
